Bio:
Mid-80s indie guitar band, previously know as The Low.
The band existed for approx 10 years, c1980-1990, changing their name around 1984.
Managed by Terry O'Neill, the Pogue's Irish press officer.
The Real Wild West played the Eurorock Festival in 1987. A recording of this set
undoubtedly exists.
A plethora of people were involved in
the production of their EP, including Philip Chevron, Shane MacGowan and U2's
road manager Joe Herlihy. There was a contemporaneous [c1989] rumour that Mother
Records were interested in them so the band promptly disappeared to London where
they recorded an unreleased album for Setanta. This comprised songs that had
been on their set-list for half a decade at least, the band had demoed many of
them in STS studios in the mid-80s. A very interesting band who deserve to
be better known.
Trumpeter Ian Smith joined the band around 1987 and was with them for three years.
He also recorded with the Screech Owls among
others.
He moved to London in 1990 where he became involved in the free improv scene
and has released two solo albums among many other records. See the links for more
details.

"Under Creeping Trees" produced by Phil Chevron.
