Bio:
Originally from Mullingar but probably based
in Dublin.
The Times were a showband with a history stretching back to 1968.
They were led by the Swarbrigg brothers and recorded a string of superior
pop singles with them between 1968-74. The brothers split from the band
circa 1975 and the remaining
members continued on until the early 1980s. It's this later period that we deal with here. They band
toned down the brass section and made several singles; in 1980 they added a female
singer Maggie Maye.
Of chief interest is their first of four singles for the Crashed label.
"S.S.Rocker" was the first release on the label and is good post-glam rock/powerpop.
Being on the same label as Sweet Savage and with a title like "S.S.Rocker"
it's been offered by enterprising (and totally deaf) sellers as NWOBHM but it's not.
The follow-up "Rain" has been described as "very average powerpop"; the final
two on Crashed are reputedly even less interesting.
The CBS single has also offered on ebay as powerpop but caveat emptor!
