Bio:

Brady and Kiely from Drumcondra in Dublin. Michael Kiely was earlier in Julian's Heirs with his brothers David and Des.

Michael Kiely was a musical journalist for High Times, the early 70s underground rock newspaper and forerunner of Hot Press in its coverage of the Irish rock scene.

Cromwell in 1972-73 with Mick O'Hagan
l-to-r: Michael Kiely, Derek Dawson, Mick O'Hagan, Patrick Brady.

Cromwell formed in the early 1970s and were a quartet, with singer Mick O'Hagan from Drogheda (son of tenor Pat O'Hagan) for some time. This lineup recorded a demo at Emerald Studios in Belfast which is presumably lost. O'Hagan had left the band by the time of their debut single in 1973. All releases were on the band's own label.

Cromwell supported Rory Gallagher on his Irish tour in 1972 alongside Sleepy Hollow. These shows may have been recorded. Their live set included a cover of Granny's Intentions "Merry Johnny".

Main songwriting duo Brady & Kiely later became The Establishment.
