Barry Devlin

From: Ardboe, Co.Tyrone, Northern Ireland

Active: 70s/80s

Bio:

Barry Devlin is best known as bass player and founding member of Horslips. He was also the main vocalist during the band's original existance (1970-1980) though he doesn't seem to sing as many of the songs since Horslips' return in 2004.

In 1983 Barry issued a solo album called "Breaking Star Codes". This was a concept album or song cycle with 12 songs, each loosely based on the 12 signs of the zodiac. Among the musicians featured on the album is Jim Lockhart (who'd become an RTE producer since Horslips split), who is credited with keyboards and string arrangements; and Steve Travers (who'd played with The Crack and later teamed up with ex Horslips guitarist Johnny Fean as Fean & Travers) who plays bass on 4 tracks. The cover artwork is by Roger Dean. Issued on Barry's own Starcode imprint through RTE Records, this album has become hard to track down.

Barry later collaborated with Jim Lockhart on the theme to the RTE drama series Glenroe. He did some production work, notably U2 in their early days and the Mama's Boys, before turning his attention to film and TV work. Check the IMDB for a list of Barry's writing, production and directing credits.
