Bio:
Maura O'Connell (b.1958) was originally a folk/trad singer who began her career as part
of the duo Tumbleweed in 1977 with Mike Hanrahan (later Stockton's Wing).
She came to prominence with De Danann during their hugely successful exploration of Irish-American
music of the early 20th century, as documented on The Star Spangled Molly album in 1981.
This eventually led her into a deeper exploration of US country/bluegrass/roots music.
She moved to the USA mid-decade while continuing to appear with De Danann up until 1986 approx.
Her solo recordings from 1985-87 were hurely successful in Ireland and led to
her international breakthrough in the early '90s. She announced her retirement in 2013.
