Something Happens!

From: Dublin

Active: 1984-

Style: Indie

Lineup:

Bio:

South Dublin city band founded in 1984 by Eamon Ryan and Alan Byrne. Tom Dunne had previously been with The End. Something Happens were the proto-typical Irish indie guitar band of the '80s. They were compared to everyone from REM to The Smiths. They signed to Virgin Records in 1987. Their discography is scattered with fabulous tracks, many of which are imprinted on the memories of Irish people of a certain age. Perhaps they failed to make that one "all killer no filler" consistently great LP but their records are recommended. They were dropped by Virgin in 1994 and self-released their final album. The split sometime after. Tom Dunne is now a radio DJ. They reform regularly in Dublin for xmas gigs.

• Forget Georgia
K7 - demo - 1985

Something Happens recorded many more demos before being signed by Virgin. If I ever manage to corner an unsuspecting member of the band, I'll beat the details out of him. For now, this demo is all I can report. If anyone has any demo cassettes, please forward the details.

Notes:
The debut single which seemed to take forever to finally be released. The Prophet Records issue has a unique label (see above). I am unsure if there was also a dedicated/unique Prophet Records sleeve. Prophet label copies housed in imported Wild Bikini/Cooking Vinyl sleeves were available for sale in Ireland; the initial Wild Bikini/Cooking Vinyl copies in the UK have pasted over labels, i.e. they are Prophet label copies with pasted over Wild Bikini/Cooking Vinyl. I presume there are original Wild Bikini/Cooking Vinyl labels that are not paste overs.
