Label launched in 1974 by Tony Loughman, publisher of Entertainment News. Most of the artists on the label were signed to Loughman's Top Rank Promotions management company, most notably Philomena Begley. Top Rank had been established in 1963 and by the 1970s was the biggest management company in the country music business in Ireland, managing people like Big Tom, Susan McCann, Philomena Begley, etc. Top Rank also owned a chain of ballrooms and other venues across the country and a recording studio, situated in Castleblayney, Co.Monaghan. Top Rank also brought country stars from America to perform in Ireland: Porter Wagoner, Charlie Pride, Hank Locklin, Johnny Cash, etc. Some of these artists also recorded for Top Spin.
