Red Hurley AKA Red Vincent Hurley

From: Milltown, Dublin

Active: 70s onwards

Style: Pop

Bio:

Brian Hurley AKA Red Hurley (born 1949) fronted The Colours (1969-70), The Wheels (1970-71) and The Nevada (1971-74), replacing the departing Roly Daniels and joining his brother Liam Hurley in the latter. He scored hit singles with all of the above, and established himself as one of Ireland's top pop singers. He launched his solo career with his own Red Hurley Band in 1974 and enjoyed a lengthy solo career. He appeared on TV in Ireland and the UK many times. He represented Ireland at Eurovision with 'When' in 1976 and was signed to Red Bus Management (UK) for a number of years in the mid-70s, resulting in a number of continental singles, but his career remained centered in Ireland until the 90s, when it began to waine and he moved to the USA. Like many Irish entertainers of the 70s, his career in Ireland enjoyed a boost thanks to a wave of nostalgia which engulfed the country in the early 21st century.

Between his stints with The Wheels and The Nevada, Red Hurley recorded one song 'Going Away' for the 1971 National Song Contest. Was this released as a single?

Brother of manager/producer Liam Hurley.
