Portrait evolved from various mid-60s Dublin bands. Jody Polland and Jimmy Mahon had been in The Drags and Strange Brew, while Philip Donnelly had played with the Oscar Whifney Sound.

Portrait appeared on the bill of the Open Air Festival held at Richmond Park in Dublin on 4 September 1970 and were still gigging in June 1971 according to the advert below.




Most of Portrait became Elmer Fudd.
