Originally known as Orpheus, Sudden Urge were a north Dublin city band. They rehearsed in Greendale community school where a pre fame Roddy Doyle was a teacher and reputedly attended a few of the sessions. They played many gigs on the Dublin circuit.

Sudden Urge recorded demos at Norman Teeling's studio in Clontarf.

Leader Sean O'Connor also managed Alcove, whose lineup included Eamon Butler's brother Pat Butler on keyboards.

Sean O'Connor now lives in Japan where he works as an Irish traditional music performer.
