Crashed was a Dublin based label that was prepared to release
anything that would sell. This isn't a criticism, just a statement of fact. It means
there was a wide variety of releases including a large number of pop, country, folk, disco, easy listening,
showband and novelty records, but also some releases by local heavy metal bands
and a few sought after singles from the new wave era. Crashed established a sub label
Smashed in 1982. Together these labels released well over
100 singles, the vast majority of which were frankly rubbish.
Crashed Records online bio says it was "founded in 1983 and has
since been developed to become one of the major Independent Irish record
labels. Its MD and owner, Shay Hennessy has worked in the music industry for
30 years." This later date may be related to ending an arrangement with EMI Records.
Crashed's address was 130 Slaney Road Finglas Dublin 11 which wwas EMI Ireland's
headquarters. Perhaps the 1978-83 releases were issued with the aid of EMI (though there is
no indication of such on any of the releases) and thereafter became a true indie.
Or vice versa? Anyone know the details?
The following are all 7" single releases unless otherwise stated.
Picture sleeves are not common.
Note: Sweet Savage's "The Raid" / "Prosecutor of Greed" single reputedly released in 1985 does not exist.
