Founded in the late 1980s by Denis Desmond after Revolving Records had folded and media mogul Oliver Barry. Solid replaced Scoff as the premier Irish indie label releasing many one-off singles. The label's profile was boosted by the success of their biggest-selling act, The Saw Doctors, whose debut album became Ireland's best-selling album of that year. Solid had a distribution deal with APT in the UK. In late 1991, Solid initiated a (short- lived) sister label, Liquid.
